What is Transformative Coaching
Transformative coaching is the process of two or more people participating in a relationship that promotes growth, seeing life differently, and having a better experience of life, whether it is relationships, business, health or finances it does not matter, because it is not about the outside world. It is about perception of the outside world, with new eyes, everything looks different, and anything is possible.
I help you understand how to get a clear mind, to get the life you really want, to dream big and eliminate limitations. Usually people who come to coaching have suffered in some way and have big dreams, desires and ambitions to create, get somewhere in life, only this is often full of misunderstanding of how life works. The understanding of our own mind leads to effortless creation.
Hello.
My name is Jason Shiers.
In transformative coaching sessions, we start from the very ground you are standing on, we investigate beliefs, and ideas that have been formed over time and colour your perception of ability and potential, they also form the foundation of all struggles.
After we get grounded in a new perspective from there we can look at different ‘things’ in the objective world you want to achieve, but they will look totally different to where you were stuck with them before.
Transformative coaching is for people who really want to explore themselves, overcome struggles and do something great in the world.
Definition of transformative coaching
Transformative coaching is guiding you back to your own power, to that which is within you that will guide you forever, that somehow, you have become disconnected from. In the process of conditioning, life struggles and adversity we often lose touch with that instinctive knowing we are born with, the spiritual intelligence that guides us. How many times have you got into a relationship, knowing it was not right, when it ended, said, I knew that all along? Everyone has had this experience, it shows how as a society we are tuned out of ourselves, the greatest power there is is within, this is what transformative coaching is, reconnecting with that power.

Between the stimulus and response, there is a space. And in that space lies our freedom and power to choose our responses. In our response lies our growth and our freedom

Comparison with traditional coaching
Traditional coaching or any psychological process that does not include transformation may well shoehorn you from a to b, but will not address the underlying issue that stopped you from being able to do that yourself. It will also not help you get clear on your own understanding of life, and yourself. What is holding you up in anything is what is holding you up in everything, these things are the difference between feeding a man a fish and teaching him how to fish, one will feed him for a lifetime the other will feed him for a day. Transformative coaching will transform your mind, your life and it cannot help but change all aspects of your life, as it addresses the core misunderstandings of the mind that show up in all struggles. The mind cannot consciously see the connection, but when digging in, it is always there, and it is always conscious or unconscious belief based.

Understanding your own mind
Rupert Spira said in the book The Nature of Consciousness, any mind wishing to understand the nature of reality, must first understand the nature of itself. This is the core misunderstanding that is addressed in transformative coaching. You get a complete change in the eyes that see everything, so everything looks different, but nothing has to change. From this new place, your ability to achieve, to perform, to create will 10x if not 1000000x, the potential is infinite, when you see.
The types of issues addressed in Transformative coaching
Everyones experience desires, and type of relationship will be different based on a number of factors, how their childhood was, parents, influences such as religion, culture, societal influence and so much more, childhood adversity for example, present parents or not there are many things that all play out in adult life that were part of our upbringing. Some of the major issues can be:
How transformative Coaching can help
Transformation is the result of transformative coaching, you cannot possibly know from where you are standing what is possible, simply because it is true for all people that we don’t know what we don’t know, but when you see that, the possibilities are endless and infinite. This is about stepping out of your current limited view and seeing fresh possibilities you never thought were possible before. This approach can help with anything in your life and everything, the lists of transformations I have seen are endless.
Whether you want to make a £1,000,0000 business decision, or you are stuck wanting to lose weight, the understanding of transformation will make it easier, better, more clear, and simple.
What are the Benefits of Transformative Coaching?
The benefits are really endless, if I were to list them here on this page, it would be doing them an injustice simply because I could not possibly know what they are for you, so know that for each of us, it is unique, different, and always surprising how far we can take things compared to where we started the journey, but I will list some of the common benefits of transformative coaching below:
- Less thinking more doing
- Long lasting sustainable change
- Living life with more joy
- Feeling more hopeful about life
- Achieving what looked impossible
- Less worry, stress and fear
- Better Relationships
- Improved Business
- Better physical health
- True Mental Health
The Practice of Transformative Coaching
One of the beautiful things about transformative coaching is, you get to see beyond the mind’s desire to know ‘how it works’ in order to just feel it working in your life. Almost every client comes wanting this, and also potential clients, they want to know what the practice is, in order to assess its value. But if you don’t know what you don’t know, how is it possible from your current perspective to assess value?
You have to use, experientially the very things we will learn about, your instinct, does it feel like there is something interesting to learn? Do you feel called to explore, maybe you don’t even know why? That is the practice, right from the first call, you get to learn about yourself and how you progress effortlessly through life without having to critically consume all information and work it out via a pros and cons list or shoehorn yourself to happiness.
Different levels of coaching and change
In transformative coaching we will become acutely aware of ourselves, and our own inner workings, we may come with goals and ambitions which will get addressed when the fundamental foundation is in place, it will usually always come about in a completely different way to what you expect. This is the beauty of the journey so much more than you imagine can materialise.
Overview of behavioural coaching and transformative coaching
In most traditional coaching models there will be a focus and emphasis on behaviour, what I have termed shoehorning yourself from a to b. This can be great in business if you are an owner and you want a member of staff to complete your vision for example, but for most of us, we are left unfulfilled in this approach as it does not satisfy our needs internally.

How the levels of coaching work together
There are so many levels to transformative coaching, but firstly noticing yourself, and perspective, insight into creativity, the binary thinking system and your innate potential will be the guiding factors. From there behavioural change will be inevitable, it is not a requirement but an outcome, it is what happens when you free yourself from yourself.
How a Transformative Coach Works with Their Client
This is not a linear journey, from point a your arrival to point b your departure. We go on an exploration together, we have transformative conversations and insights come as a result of that. You will most likely change your end goal, achieve it simply, or 10x it and feel inspired to move forward when you understand these things.
For some the journey takes longer than others, there is more conditioning to see through, more embodied beliefs and repressed emotions that are playing out in where you see yourself stuck. Often that is the beginning, seeing where you really are, and then from there how to move forward will unfold naturally. It is a process of discovery and realisation.
Explanation of the transformative coach-client relationship
The coach-client relationship in transformative coaching is often intimate and reflective so pick someone you can feel connected to, that is the most important part. Transformation cannot be taught from a book or a course, it has to have been experienced, however that alone does not make you a great coach, but it helps you understand what it is you are pointing to.
The art is that of the coach, how they point you to your true nature, how they help you see what is possible. The science is the science, it is a pointing to what is true for all human beings. You don’t have to be convinced of this, you get to see for yourself.
The core assumptions of transformative coaching
The core assumptions of transformative coaching are that all people have access to innate wisdom they are born with it. They all have the creative potential of the entire universe, they have innate, perfect mental health, and infinite potential. Most importantly they are capable of convincing themselves this is not true. So all we are doing is undoing that last part, you are not learning something new, you are seeing what is already true. Uncovering what is already there.
The struggles in transformative coaching
One of the challenges of transformative coaching is helping people see the truth of who they are, and their resistance to it. This often depends on if you have lived your life as a victim, or a survivor or some past traumas, if you have been through adversity, struggles etc, how you were brought up, all these things will contribute towards your conditioning, and thick layer of thinking that overlays what is beautiful and present in all people.
You may feel challenged to let go of old ideas about yourself, about your potential and your capabilities that have been protecting and serving you since childhood. Yet when you know the possibility on the other side, it is a beautiful experience.
Becoming reconnected to the body is also sometimes a challenge, often for many people who come to coaching they have been a walking head, a walking to do list, lost in the thinking mind, missing all the beauty of life, we reconnect to those parts of ourselves naturally when we don’t need those defenses anymore.

The process of working with a Transformative coach
Transformative coaching is a process of seeing the innate well-being that underlies all human experience. The mind has a tendency to want answers, yet in this process we look to what is right rather than what is wrong, through profound realisations we see what we have much more potential than we think, and infinite possibilities are always there. This applies regardless of your past, or where you are at, £1,000,000 decision or a life struggle. This process will help you see it more clearly.
Discover new ways of improving communication, with yourself and others.
You will discover new ways of relating to yourself, which will in turn give you a new way of relating to others. Most people who come to transformative coaching, do not know themselves, beyond name, status, and what they have achieved, we look much deeper than this, ask questions you have never asked before.
Frequency of Sessions
Sessions will be weekly at first and we see how that works out. If you struggle to get beyond the talking about your week, we may extend sessions to be 2 hrs or meet up for longer. The pace of these sessions will slow down as you start to relax and see what we are looking at. This is not about frequency or pace, it’s about insight.
The goals of Transformative Coaching
The goal of transformative coaching is insight. Insight into your ability to achieve anything, to overcome anything and to create anything. Those things are already there, they have simply been covered over by societal conditioning. This is the difference between feeding you a fish, and teaching you how to fish, it will feed you for a lifetime.
Exploring our creative potential
Why would it be that some people have access to creative potential, and others don't? Are they born different? Or is it a learned belief? We explore the source of creation and get to see that the creative potential for almost every human being is infinite, that means for you too, even if you were told you were not creative at school.
Overcoming stress, struggles and worries
Transformative coaching will help you overcome struggles, worries and stress from a different perspective. This is trauma informed coaching so if that is what you need we look there, from the perspective of being a whole human being with infinite potential. There is a surprising source of stress that you probably haven’t considered. (it's not your life)
Transitioning through life circumstances
Whatever the life circumstances, whether it’s relationship focused, work, career, health or wealth, we work together to help you see a new perspective and how to overcome these challenges simply. We help you to see the potential within you to overcome anything, regardless of the circumstances. This is a magical adventure that will reveal so much.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a difference between “transformative” and “transformational” coaching?
Transformation is a result of transformative coaching, it is what happens, when a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, it opens to all its beauty that is within. People, things, life can transform at any moment, it is not hard work it is realisation.
Is transformative coaching better than life coaching?
Well I am a little biased, as an NLP practitioner and long term therapist and life coach, I had little impact and ability to help people make shifts, that seemed to be always temporary, yet now, shifts last a life time, from where I am sitting, it looks like the most effective way to help people achieve what they want, and with a beautiful journey.
What Skills and training do transformative coaches have?
Everything changes in the presence of presence, when someone is there, really there, you feel it, that is a core understanding of themselves, you may call it a skill. Same with listening, and reflecting, these skills are all experientially gained, not learned academically. So the most important part is always the relationship you have with them, which will be partly a reflection of the relationship they have with themselves. Transformative coaches have to have experienced transformation, otherwise what are they pointing you to? A belief or a good idea.
